WELCOME TO:
COWICHAN VALLEY LURE COURSING ASSOCIATION on Vancouver Island formed by Ray and Sharon Paulger whose Afghan Swiftwind Raggity Anne had something to do with it!
This issue will not only include the results of the Lower Mainland Sighthound Association trials but will also consist of many suggestions concerning the rules and organization of CSFA. If you have any views on the matters PLEASE send them to me for publication in the next issue.
The next issue will contain two ballots. One will be for the executive of CSFA and the other will be for rule changes. To be eligible to vote you must be either an individual member of CSFA or a member of a licensed club.
Individual memberships are available for $5.00 per annum and entitle you to a vote and every issue of CANFAN.
To receive CANFAN you must be either an individual member of CSFA or a subscriber or a Club Secretary or an entrant in a lure course published in that issue. Please note that unless you are one of the first three or plan to enter every lure course in Canada you will not receive CANFAN regularly.
Temporary Editor of CANFAN: Heather M. Loube
This International trial will be held in May of 1978. Area Invitationals will Commence after Labour Day in the States.
Canadian hounds have shown that they are just as good or better in the field. Let's hope we will have some good Canadian hounds to run at the International next year. British Columbia could easily hold their own area invitational in the spring to determine the hounds eligible. COMMENTS?????????
___ I wish to become an individual member of the Canadian Sighthound Field Association. I enclose a certified cheque or money order for $5.00 made out to the above (Heather Loube).
___ I wish to subscribe to CANFAN. I enclose a certified cheque or money order for $2.50 made out to the above.

Listed below are proposed changes or additions to the rules which have been suggested by various people at different times. In some cases there is a definite need for a change and in others the choice will be up to you. Think about them seriously for you will be voting on these changes in the fall.
CHAPTER IV - RUNNING THE MEET
SECTION 3
Option # 1 - as stated
Option #2 - if entries of-any breed shall be less than 5 .........
To be added -- In the event of a single entry where no mixed stake is offered, that entry shall be nm in a stake with a breed of comparable running characteristics. The dog shall NOT count for points for the other breed it is being run with.
SECTION 5
Option # 1 - as stated
Option # 2 - In the event of split stakes, the highest scoring hound in each stake shall be run off for Best of Breed before Best in Field.
Option # 3 - In the event of split stakes the highest scoring hound of both stakes shall be the winner unless there is a tie. Ties will berun off or forfeited.
Option # 4 - In the event of split stakes the highest scoring hound from each stake will compete for Best in Field thus determining the Best of Breed winner from the highest scorer.
COMMENT: If, when BIF is offered, BOB is run off, the winner is presumably at a disadvantage going into BIF competition. ASFA rules have a run off between the winner(s) of the Open Stake(s) and the winner(s) of the Field Champions Stake(s) before BIF. There are occasions when a hound competing for BIF has not had to run off. However, at one time, ASFA awarded BOB to the highest score.
SECTION
Option # 1 - as stated
Option # 2 - (d) The winner of BIF is awarded the maximum number of points won by any breed that day. COMMENT: The change implies that BIF should be compulsory. The advantage of changing is that those breeds with few entries would have a better chance to obtain a F.Ch. faster. BIF judging is, however, extremely difficult and requires that each judge have THOROUGH knowledge of EACH breed's running style.
SECTION 20
Any person participating in any capacity at a lure field trial held under these Rules shall not be subjected to an indignity of any kind during the progress of the trial. On report to the Host Club of an alleged indignity of any kind, the Field Committee shall condut an investigation and shall at once render its decision to the parties concerned. It shall also, within ten days, report to the President of CSFA the nature of the indignity, the names of the parties concerned, and its finding. The Board of Directors shall have the power to take such action as it deems fit on receipt of a report indicating that this rule has been violated.
CHAPTER VI FIELD CHAMPIONS
FIELD CHAMPION EXCELLENT
To be awarded to the hound which as filled the following requirements:
a) is a Field Champion
b) obtains 200 additional points
c) attains at least 5 first placements with competition
CHAPTER VI<
part (b) add "with competition"
CHAPTER VII
Course plans which have boon altered from those published in the Premium list must be posted on the field in a prominent place. A trial run must be announced and made immediately before roll call. Any person who then decides not to run his hound has the option of withdrawing his entry and having his entry fee refunded, NOTE; Great care must be taken when drawing up course plans to ensure that all facets of the hounds' coursing ability are adequately tested.
CHAPTER XII
PRE-SLIP
ADD - The Tally-ho need not be given.
CHAPTER I
SECTION I
Option # 1 - as stated
Option # 2 - delete "eligible for registration".
COMMENT: No championship certificates are awarded to unregistered dogs although they presently may compete. CKC will not allow, commencing 1978 entries from any unregistered Canadian dog. Since the sighthounds must be one year old when entering a meet, this gives ample time to register. ASFA allows CKC registered dogs to compete and they need not be AKC registered to obtain a certificate.
CHAPTER V
NBQ
Option # 1 - as stated
Option # 2 - Points equal to one half the number of points awarded to Fourth place to a maximum of 5
SETTING SON OF COURSE, CAN.F.CH.

Setter was a whippet of phenomenal heart and courage.
All who saw him run were struck breathless by his speed and stamina. We send our deepest sympathy to Barry and Loma Leinbach on the tragic loss of their beloved pet.

ADVERTISING IS WELCOME IN CANFAN !!
Rates are $5.00 per page. Copy should be sent to the editor. Only pre-paid ads will be run.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO??????? $1.00 of every entry fee goes to CSFA as a recording fee. Rule Books are .500. CSFA memberships are $5.00. Subscriptions are $2.50. This is the only revenue that CSFA receives. It pays for printing, postage, supplies. CSFA is non-profit, believe me!! Hopefully, we will soon be able to have CANFAN printed professionally which will save a lot of work. CSFA is grateful to the people who have given so much time and effort to the organization.
NO-ONE IS PERFECT!!! Sometimes errors occur on the field sheets or the judges sheets which are not discovered until after the meet. The results in CANFAN are the corrected, official results. The Host Club has the duty of notifying entrants concerned of errors and making ribbon changes. Contact the field trial secretary of the Club concerned if you want your ribbons changed.
RECORDS are kept of each hound entered in CSFA meets. The names are filed by breed and in alphabetical order. Each file card contains the dog's name, call name, registration number, date of birth, the owner's name and address PLUS the score from each meet and the points awarded.
SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS are welcomed anytime. CSFA is not a mindreader. If you think something should be changed or introduced, then please send it in. Constructive criticism is wanted and is needed. PUT IT IN WRITING.
